Development of apps for VR glasses and their usage in the theatre is one thing, but the pandemic has forced us to rethink the way classical theatre, opera, and ballet performances are distributed and organized. Our latest production, Cyber Ballet, created in collaboration with the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe, brings dancers, movement, music and expression from the physical scene to the virtual one. In the lecture, I will explain what possibilities virtual reality can provide us in the future and how we created cyber ballet.

Lecturer — Marcel Karnapke. Developer, lecturer and co-founder of the artist collective “CyberRäuber”, which realizes new formats and applications for Virtual Reality in a theatre context. For Cambridge University he has developed virtual museums for the dissemination of archaeological research results. In 2017, in collaboration with the Schauspiel Dortmund and directed by Kay Voges, the VR play Memories of Borderline was created, which was shown both at the festival Theatertreffen in  Berlin and at Ars Electronica Center. His work focuses on 3D reality reconstruction in the field of architecture as well as the digitization of complete stage sets of classical theatre. Marcel is the winner of the 3D Guild Award of the International 3D Summit in Liege, Belgium, and in 2017 he won the Halo Award in Gold of the VR Days in the category Best 3D VR Animation Film with Pitoti Prometheus.

The lecture is organized in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Belarus.
